What do I need to bring?

- A soft bag or rucksack (maximum weight 20Kgs) for your clothes and personal belongings. Each guest has an individual locker in the rear of the vehicle.

- A small luggage lock if you prefer to keep your locker locked.

- A sleeping bag and pillow.

- A day pack in which to carry personal effects (wallet, camera, etc) on day excursions.

- Camera, suntan lotion, head light, reading material, etc.

What costs are not included?

The tour cost includes all meals, teas and coffees served in camp, all accommodation costs, park entry fees, fuel and toll fees, etc. Drinks and tips are not included. Certain optional activities, most notably the bungy jumping and shark cage diving are not included, because not everyone will want to participate.

Do we have to share tents with people we don’t know?

No. Although our Tent Cots are double sleepers, we provide one per person so that everyone has more space and privacy, unless of course people and couples travelling together would prefer to share.

Do we have to participate in camp activities?

No, although people are welcome to get involved whenever they want to. Many guests seem to enjoy helping in the mobile kitchen and are always encouraged to learn new dishes and familiarise themselves with the local ingredients.

How big are the groups that we will travel in?

In order to create a relaxed atmosphere and to ensure service levels are maintained, each group is limited to a maximum of 10 guests.

What kind of food will we be eating?

For the most part, meals are typically Western in style and preparation, although specific African influences are introduced where appropriate. Lunches are usually served cold (Sandwiches, salads, etc) as we are usually on the road. Dinners are the main meal of the day.

What travel documents and inoculations will I need?

Your travel agent and our booking teams will be able to advise, according to your country of origin. Bear in mind that we also visit Swaziland and Lesotho on these tours.

Is Malaria is problem?

Malaria is prevalent in the lowveld region where the Kruger National Park is situated. People have differing views on whether or not to take anti-malaria tablets/prophylaxis although we recommend their use. Insect repellent sprays or creams are also recommended. It is best to consult your doctor.

How safe are these tours?

South Africa is a lot safer than many people living abroad might think. If it wasn't, we wouldn't live here! Like many large cities around the world, Johannesburg for example has some areas where it is unsafe to go. However, on our tours, we are primarily far from built-up urban environments that seem so attractive to criminals around the world.

As far as medical facilities are concerned, all routes are close to doctors and hospitals and every client must have the necessary medical insurance in place. The routes do not venture into highly remote areas where medical facilities are far removed, and all tour leaders are qualified in First Aid and re-tested every 24 months.

Will there be telephone and Internet facilities along the route?

Virtually all areas visited on these tours have cellular phone coverage, although you will need to ensure that your phone is set up for international roaming. There are internet cafes in most towns that we pass through but not necessarily in the overnight camps. However, limited access to internet is usually available from our mobile kitchen, at an additional cost

Can I do both trips back-to-back?

Yes. In fact, most of our guests prefer to do this and our departure schedules are set up to accommodate this, either from Johannesburg to Cape Town or from Cape Town to Johannesburg.

Can I add other excursions to my trip?

Yes, our booking teams regularly arrange add-ons. Visit www.nomadicadventures.co.za to view other options or contact them with your own preferences.

Note: For those guests wishing to spend some time in Durban, MyGRATION Safari Company will be pleased to assist with arranging accommodation for them. For those guests continuing their tour with MyGRATION  Safari Company to Cape Town or Johannesburg, there is a one day stay in Durban, where accommodation will be arranged on request.
